ABOUT

Trailways Accommodation is a recently built two bedroom, self contained home with modern conveniences and a spacious outdoor entertaining area.

Just 20 mins from the Spirit of Tasmania Terminal and the Devonport Airport, Railton is the gateway to the Wild Mersey Mountain Bike Trails, Cradle Mountain National Park, Mount Roland Conservation Area and Lake Barrington International Rowing Course.

Only 8 mins from historic Sheffield and an easy 10 minutes from Latrobe. Railton is the hub for the Wild Mersey Mountain Bike trails.

After a day of mountain biking from the doorstep or exploring the nearby hiking trails you can relax on the deck with a local beer or wine, engage in some outdoor games provided on the private back lawn while warming up around the firepit with a beer. Pay a visit to the resident platypus in Redwater creek at the rear of the property and help yourself to the fruit from the orchard and raspberry patch when in season.

Situated next to the train line, train enthusiasts and young children will love watching the long freight trains pass by slowly, the friendly train drivers will usually smile and wave back too. Occasionally a train will pass during the night and we have provided ear plugs for the lighter sleepers. Alternatively there is a pub next door to help numb the senses.

The fully equipped kitchen has a kettle, cafeitaly coffee machine, oven, microwave, rice cooker, toaster and toasted sandwich maker, stove and dishwasher to make self-catering simple.

A Jamie Oliver '5 Ingredients or Less' Cookbook will inspire simple tasty meals.

Free Wifi and Netflix

Wind down at the end of the day watching your favourite shows on Netflix or upload your pictures from the days adventures using the free Wifi.

Entertaining Deck

The outdoor setting is perfect for family dinners or an afternoon beer with your travel companions.

Drag the indoor/outdoor beanbags onto the deck and enjoy your morning coffee in the sunshine.

Parking & Bike Storage

Plenty of space for two vehicles with good height clearance in our car port.

Muddy bikes are welcome and there are tools, a work stand and bike wash to get ready for the next ride, located in our secure & purpose built bike shed.

An external security camera will also give you peace of mind covering the accommodation entry and car port.

Tea and Coffee

Tea and Coffee are provided.

There is a Caffitaly coffee machine with Urban Brew compostable pods.

Garden

There is a resident platypus in Redwater creek at the rear of the property and a wallaby who regularly visits the backyard.

Help yourself to fruit from the orchard or the raspberry patch when in season.

Trains

Train enthusiasts and children will love watching the infrequent freight trains pass by slowly. The friendly train drivers will usually even smile and wave back.

Occasionally a train may pass by during the night and we have provided ear plugs for the lighter sleepers.

BBQ and Firepit

There is a BBQ provided on the deck for lazy summer BBQ dinners

and a firepit in the back garden.

Bathroom and Laundry

There is a hairdryer provided to keep your hair looking its best.

There is also an iron and ironing board provided, should you need to iron a shirt.

Wild Mersey Mountain Bike Trails

There are 60kms of world class mountain bike trails within riding distance from Trailways with plenty more trails in progress.

Railton makes the perfect base for exploring the Latrobe to Sheffield trails.

Trailways welcomes muddy bikes and provides lockup space and wash facilities to keep your pride and joy clean and safe.

Mountain bike hire and shuttle service are available in Sheffield through North West Safaris.

The Tasmanian Trail

The Tasmanian Trail is the only long distance (480km) multi-use trail in Tasmania. The experience is recreational, cultural and nature based.

It often passes through or close to small towns, allowing travellers to visit local attractions.

It offers a variety of experiences for all - from the most experienced long-distance traveller seaking a challenge to those interested in a shorter more relaxed excursion.

Food and Wine

Food and wine lovers will be delighted with the offerings within 30 minutes of Trailways Accommodation. Visit a microbrewery, chocolate factory, vineyard, cheese factory, truffledore, raspberry farm, ice-creamery, fudge cafe and many more all within 30 minutes of Trailways Accommodation.

Hiking

There are spectacular hikes close by catering for all abilities and endurances. The most famous of these is highly photographed Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake and the multi-day Overland Track. Mount Roland is less well known however is no less majestic and provides a challenging hike for the adventurous.

Lake Barrington

Lake Barrington is ideal for water-based activities such as swimming, rowing, water skiing, power boating and canoeing.

It features camping sites, picnic areas with sheltered tables, BBQs and toilets.

Lake Barrington is a designated "big fish" water, stocked by the Inland Fisheries Service with king size fish for anglers.

A kiosk operates on weekends in summer and during major sporting events.

This is a great place to get away from it and immerse yourself in Tassie's wilderness, just 30 minutes from Trailways Accommodation.

Fishing

Mersey River and Lamberts Dam in Railton are favourites with local fishers.

Nearby Lake Barrington is well stocked with Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout and Atlantic Salmon for all those keen on fishing. Lake Barrington is 31 minutes from Trailways.

Mole Creek Karst National Park

The Mole Creek Karst National Park is 42 minutes from Trailways Accommodation. It features an extensive karst landscape of caves, sinkholes, gorges, streams and springs that weave their way below the surface.

The Underground Rivers and Glow Worms Tour of Marakoopa Cave highlights the sparkling crystals, reflective pools, stalactites and stalagmites of the lower chamber.

Cradle Mountain National Park

The iconic Cradle Mountain National Park is a must visit and is located only 58 mins from Trailways Accommodation.
